What is reflexology? According to Dr. Andrew Weil, it is a healing therapy that works with points on the feet and hands which can affect the health of the body. These pressure points in our hands and feet are connected with other parts of the body. Through the application of pressure on particular areas of the hands or feet, reflexology promotes health and relaxation of tension, improvement of circulation, and support of normalized function in the related area in the body. Current scientific studies by Dr. J. Manzanares, MD have been able to establish the nervous system is the main mechanism for reflexology.
Come by and hear more about this alternative health therapy, see a reflexology demonstration, and le…arn to locate key reflex points in your hands for your own natural self-care and stress relief.
Presenter Gaia Tossing, LMT, RCR has been a Registered Certified Reflexologist in Tennessee since 2004. She studied reflexology at the International Institute of Reflexology (IIR) and received her certification in 2003. She practiced massage therapy and reflexology at Integrative Medicine Centers in both Chicago and Nashville, and taught reflexology in massage therapy schools before co-founding East Meets West Holistic Education Center. This led Ms. Tossing to found the Nashville Academy of Reflexology in 2013 to provide a professional certification program in the art and science of reflexology, authorized in the State of Tennessee, where students can learn to become reflexologists. The school provides a community reflexology clinic for interns to gain practical experience.
