Following five months of budget review, including three work sessions, the Franklin Special School District passed the 2017-2018 budget on Monday, July 17. This year’s $48 million budget provides exceptional academic programming and supporting resources, competitive employee benefits and strategic infrastructure improvements. “I am extremely proud to work with Board members who collaborate with our leadership team and employees to develop a budget that supports the district’s short-term and long-range objectives,” said Director of Schools Dr. David Snowden.
The following are highlights of the 2017-2018 fiscal year budget budget:
- A 2% cost of living increase for all FSSD employees. Eligible employees will also receive a step increase.
- Ffunds to support Phase 2 of the 1:1 device transition, enabling Poplar Grove Middle to purchase Chromebooks for grades 5-8! Freedom Middle completed its 1:1 initiative in February 2017 with Chromebooks for all students.An additional instructional technology specialist to support the district’s growing technology integration, including training and support for teachers, students and staff.
- Continuation of the tuition reimbursement program, which encourages employees to seek advanced degrees. The total program amount is $30,000.
- Continued support of the tuition waiver benefit enabling the children of full-time FSSD employees to attend FSSD schools.
- An increase in the amount paid to employees for unused sick leave when they retire from $30.00 a day to $50.00 a day. The FSSD is one of the few districts in Tennessee that offers this employee benefit.
- The continued payment of 100% of full-time individual employee insurance premiums.
