Franklin High School senior Daniel Perez Garnica has a solution to a common problem.
His idea, the Scoop, Cut-n-Melt utensil set, uses self-heating utensils to make working with stubborn kitchen ingredients easier. The idea also earned him the Best Engineered Product Idea award at Middle Tennessee State University’s High School Entrepreneurship Fair on November 15.
“It’s a self-heated ice cream spoon and knife for those awful times when your ice cream or butter is just too hard to be used,” Daniel said. “We simplify this process by putting our technology on the ice cream spoons and knives to ease those tasks of the everyday person.”
Daniel had to present his idea and business plan to a board of judges as well as have a booth at the fair. Daniel hopes that the fair was just the beginning of his work as an entrepreneur.
“I feel grateful for the opportunity to present my idea,” he said. “This is just a small step, but it will hopefully bring me closer to my goals and also break the stereotypes some have against my fellow people from Mexico and other countries.”
