Moving from the Carnton House in Franklin, Tennessee to the Carter House, I explored more of the horrific Civil War battle that occurred there. The Carter House was located on the Union lines and bore the brunt of the Confederate attack. The Carter family hid in the basement during the fighting. Their son, Tod Carter, was a soldier in John Bell Hood’s Confederate Army at Franklin. He was mortally wounded during the battle while trying to retake his family’s home. His unconscious body was recovered the following day by the family and brought home where he died. The wooden addition on the back of the Carter House retains bullet holes from the battle. More dramatic is the wooden farm office. The back of it was riddled with bullets. The view of the office from inside is quite dramatic and shows how intense the fighting was. #travelblogger #roamingmichigander #romaing_michigander #roadtrip #civilwar #franklintn #battleoffranklin #carterhousefranklintn #war #bulletholes #franklinbattlefield #franklinbattlefieldtrust #military #confederacy #unionarmy #todcarter
