getting a vibrant copper isn’t always the easiest. I’ve gone through a lot of trial and error with clients and my own hair over the years! Here are some of my favorite tricks I’ve learned:
🌿raise your developer
👆🏼I add a splash or two of 20 volume in all my red glazes*, that quarter oz. allows the cuticle to lift a bit more than 10, and allows more pigment to prenetrate deeper. this creates a much more vibrant and intense color!
🌿Add gold
🥇If you want a brighter copper use gold. This one took me a minute to realize because my first instinct was that adding more gold would mute the copper tone but no!! it enhances it! copper = red + yellow. Gold makes the copper brighter and more reflective, creating a longer lasting color!
🌿Orange booster is your bff
🧡I put at LEAST a quarter oz. of orange booster/kicker in literally every single copper red I do. It helps with any flatness you may be seeing in your coppers, making it super vibrant but not fashion color orange!
*only raise the developer in the glaze for zones 2 and 3 to avoid hot roots
