We put the boy to work today, helping us to finally pull up our dead sunflowers. Tried to leave em as long as possible to let the birds eat the seeds, but this was long overdue. Apparently, sunflowers can actually be harmful to the soil if left where planted, as the roots soak up various metals as they’re growing (beneficial!), but then releasing them back into the soil once dead. Who knew?
So into the compost pile they go!
Anyway, daydreaming already about what we’re going to plant later this year. Can’t wait til spring! Although lots of work to do before then, so we shouldn’t be too much in a hurry, I guess. So what are you planning on planting this year? 🌱
