Meet author Bernat (“Bernie”) Rosner-
At just 12 years old, he and his family were sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp, from which he emerged an orphan before being sent, alone, to the even more brutal Mauthausen-Gusen camp.
His story is one of horror and hunger, but also one of hope, and the light that can still be found even in the darkest of shadows.

Mr. Rosner immigrated to America after his liberation by American troops in the most unlikely of ways, and then later in life befriended a German man, who was the son of a Nazi officer.
They shared their experiences as boys trapped on opposite sides of the Holocaust and later authored a book together entitled ‘An Uncommon
Friendship’ (2001) detailing their different experiences and refusals to let Hitler’s agenda define their lives or friendship.
