One of my very favorite memories from our time at our cottage in Franklin…when oldest granddaughter was a little girlie with a baby doll and buggy. Real life inspired these stories…

“I promise I can push it all by myself,” Baby Doll Bear begins. “All the way,” she promises. But the old one is not entirely convinced, for it has happened before, that midway down the path, after stopping to sniff flowers peeking through the pickets, and waving to the passers by, and asking if she might pet their pup, and stopping to tie the bow ‘round her stuffing-filled foot, and then the ‘oh I forgot my baby’s bottle’ …it is at that point she begins. “I just can’t walk any more. If you could just push the buggy. Can you carry me, for my legs hurt and I’m thirsty and it is so hot.” But each spring, as it turns to summer and the Baby is just a little older, R O B allows herself to be convinced. And they set out once again. And each time, they walk for a bit longer and the little one doesn’t ask to be carried, and she remembers the toy bottle. And when you’re a Really Old Bear, you know that one day you will need the Baby to be patient with you…
