Since Spring is in the air and around the corner let’s talk about this Crested Japanese Bird’s Nest fern and care tips.

This is one of the easier, non-fickle ferns to care for. They are epiphytes which means a plant that grows on another plant but is non parasitic, such as the numerous ferns, bromeliads, air plants, and orchids growing on tree trunks in tropical rainforests.

They are known for their undulating leaves with ruffled/lacy crested tips that spread upward and outward to form a full, dense rosette with a nest-like center. Hence the name “Bird’s Nest fern.” Do not water in the nest-like center because it will rot!

⛅️ Very tolerant of low-light conditions but please know that does not mean no light.
💧Water when soil is dry ~2 inches deep as these are somewhat drought tolerant but don’t wait too long or you will get some browning tips.
🛠️Easy fern to care for. High humidity, no cold drafts and a moist soil will prevent the fronds from browning and drying out.
☠️ Toxic to pets if ingested.
