The Cumberland Presbyterian Church has been penned “Franklin’s Ryman Auditorium” by Mary Pearce, former Director of the Heritage Foundation. This historic church was built in 1876 and is located at 615 West Main Street in Franklin, Tennessee. It was designed by Hugh Cathcart Thompson, the architect who designed the Ryman Auditorium, “the Mother Church of Country Music.” Thompson also designed the historic Haynes-Berry House and Watson House in Franklin, the First United Methodist Church in McMinnville, the Utopia Hotel in Nashville, and other homes and buildings in Nashville.

This church holds important gospel music, country music, and rock-n-roll music history. Starting with the Stephens Gospel Quartet, Grand Ole Opry and country music legend Skeeter Davis, and long-time members, Felton and Mary Jarvis. In July of 1969, Felton married Chet Atkins’ secretary Mary Lynch.

Felton is famous for being Elvis Presley long-time producer at RCA. Over the years, Felton worked with other well-know artists such as Willie Nelson, Charley Pride, Jerry Reed, Fats Domino, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Carl Perkins and Ronnie McDowell.

Mary Jarvis paid for the stained glass windows and dedicated them to various long-time members.
